Pedestrian Accidents

Pedestrian accidents always increase this time of year, as the temperature cools down for Fall, more people are outside, walking, biking, and running.  Pedestrian incidents happen when people are distracted, such as using their mobile devices while driving, walking or jogging. There are now laws enacted to protect pedestrians, but we continue to see victims of pedestrian accidents severely injured. Over 60,000 pedestrians and joggers are seriously injured each year in auto-pedestrian accidents.

Here are tips for both pedestrians and drivers to help improve pedestrian safety and prevent avoidable accidents:

Pedestrians:

  • Use crosswalks

  • Take notice of approaching vehicles

  • Be visible don’t wear dark colors

  • Be extra cautious at night, bring or wear an L.E.D light

Drivers:

  • Obey the speed limit

  • Slow down when approaching intersections

  • Don’t block crosswalks, or bike paths
